Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then soft-ground engraving and specifically etching in 1882. At the same time, he started a career as a director and set designer, in 1886, for shadow theater at the cabaret du Chat Noir, improving the performances by creating innovative colored backdrops.
