Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing and then with soft-ground etching, specifically etching in 1882. At the same time, he started a career as a director and set designer in 1886, in the shadow theater at the cabaret du Chat noir, shows that he improved by creating very innovative colored sets. He then devoted himself exclusively to painting and engraving and made his mark in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted about a thousand watercolors).
