Henri Rivière (1864-1951) is a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then with intaglio engraving, specifically etching in 1882. Simultaneously, he started a career as a director and set designer in 1886 at the shadow theater of the Chat noir cabaret, improving the shows by creating innovative colored sets. He then dedicated himself exclusively to painting and engraving and made his mark in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted about a thousand watercolors).
