We note minimal spots in the margin, small tears (0.2 to 1 cm), a loss on the right side (4 cm), and a slightly creased corner. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing and then moved on to soft-ground etching, specifically copperplate engraving in 1882. At the same time, he started a career as a director and set designer in 1886, producing shadow theater shows at the Chat Noir cabaret, enhancing them with innovative color backdrops. He then devoted himself entirely to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printing, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted about a thousand watercolors).
