Lithograph by Henri Rivière The Aspects of Nature - Summer Evening A5205 This lithograph “The Aspects of Nature - Summer Evening” is signed by Henri Rivière and bears a red stamp at the bottom right. We note tears and creases in the margin, as well as small stains. The colors are perfect; once framed, these imperfections will be less noticeable. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then moved on to soft-ground etching, specifically aquatint, in 1882. Simultaneously, he started a career as a director and set designer in 1886, for the shadow theater at the Chat Noir cabaret, enhancing performances by creating innovative colored backdrops. He then devoted himself exclusively to painting and engraving, making a name for himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted about a thousand watercolors).
