Henri Rivière (1864-1951) is a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing and then with soft-ground etching, specifically etching in 1882. At the same time, he started a career as a director and set designer in 1886, for shadow theater at the Chat Noir cabaret, improving performances with innovative colored sets. He then dedicated himself exclusively to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted about a thousand watercolors).
