Henri Rivière (1864-1951) is a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He started his career with drawing and then with intaglio engraving, specifically etching, in 1882. At the same time, he began a career as a director and set designer in 1886 at the shadow theater in the cabaret du Chat noir, improving the shows by creating very innovative colored sets. He then devoted himself exclusively to painting and engraving and established himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted about a thousand watercolors).
