Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing and then with etching in soft ground, specifically etching in 1882. At the same time, he embarked on a career as a stage director and set designer, in 1886, for shadow theater at the Chat Noir cabaret, enhancing performances by creating innovative colored sets. He then dedicated himself exclusively to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted approximately a thousand watercolors).
