Sold as presented. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) is a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then moved on to soft-ground engraving and specifically etching in 1882. At the same time, he started a career as a director and set designer in 1886, for the shadow theater at the Chat Noir cabaret, enhancing performances with the creation of very innovative colored sets. He then devoted himself exclusively to painting and engraving, solidifying his place in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted approximately one thousand watercolors).
