Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing and then engraving through etching specifically in 1882. In parallel, he started a career as a stage director and set designer in 1886, for shadow theater at the Cabaret du Chat Noir, enhancing the performances by creating innovative colored sets. He then dedicated himself exclusively to painting and engraving, making a mark in the history of etching, prints, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted about a thousand watercolors).
