Historical context :

Light cavalry saber produced in Solingen by Carl Eickhorn for the Mexican army at the end of the 19th century. Weapon manufactured around 1860/1880 based on the French 1822 light cavalry sabre, also somewhat resembling the American 1860 model. These sabers were sold to the government of the Mexican Republic through WyDE G. (Wexel and De Gress) who were Colt and Winchester dealers in Mexico in the 1860s. He may have participated in the war against the French army during Napoleon III's Mexican expedition from 1862 to 1867 (since it equipped the regular army - 'Los Régulares'), probably to the troubles of the following years until the Mexican revolution of 1910, all a story …. from Benito Juarez to Pancho Villa! Beautiful sabre, uncommon on this side of the Atlantic, so how it arrived here, the mystery remains...
