Sold as presented. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then with soft-ground etching, specifically aquatint, in 1882. He also started a career as a director and stage designer in 1886, at the shadow theater of the Chat Noir cabaret, enhancing the performances by creating very innovative color sets. He then dedicated himself exclusively to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted around a thousand watercolors).
