Historical context:
The NR-40 (from Russian: nozh razvedchika meaning "scout's knife") model 1940 was a Soviet combat knife introduced in 1940 and used throughout World War II. The NR-40 has a blade length of 152 mm with a Bowie-type point notch, a large ricasso, a black wood handle, and an S-shaped guard. The guard is "reversed"; unlike most S-shaped guards, it curves towards the edge because standard Soviet Army handles required holding the knife with the edge facing up. Black lacquered wood handle, wooden sheath, and steel fittings with its integrated leather belt, functional. Piece in good condition, similar to the original model. A dagger very pleasant to hold and beautiful in display!
