The National Security Volunteer Militia (in Italian, MVSN, an acronym for Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale) is a military corps of Italy from the WW2 period.
Its creation is the result of a deliberation by the Grand Council in January 1923. Initially conceived as a militia and used exclusively by the Italian National Party (it only obeyed the President of the Council and swore allegiance only to him, in contradiction to the obligation of allegiance to the sovereign), with the "constitutionalization" of fascism and in disagreement with the army of the Kingdom, it eventually merged with the army.
The Blackshirts (in Italian: camicie nere or squadristi) are the members of the militia of Benito Mussolini's fascist regime, organized since March 23, 1919, into Italian Combat Leagues (Fasci Italiani di Combattimento) (alluding to the symbol of authority of the consuls in ancient Rome).
These groups were mainly composed of former demobilized soldiers, workers, peasants, aristocrats, unemployed individuals, and young bourgeois. They were the ones who enabled Mussolini's rise to power during the March on Rome. By the end of 1919, there were 17,000 of them. In 1922, when the Duce took power, there were 700,000 Blackshirts.
