King Leopold II, whose full name is Leopold Louis-Philippe Marie Victor of Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha, was born on April 9, 1835, at the Royal Palace in Brussels (Belgium) and died on December 17, 1909, at the Castle of Laeken (in the same country). He was the second King of the Belgians (from December 17, 1865, to December 17, 1909), Prince of Belgium, Duke of Saxe, Prince of Saxe-Cobourg and Gotha, and Duke of Brabant (1840-1865).
He succeeded his father, Leopold I, to the throne of Belgium in 1865. Through his mother, Louise of Orléans, he was the grandson of Louis-Philippe I, King of the French. He was the brother of Charlotte, the Empress consort of Mexico.
DIMENSIONS:

Length without scabbard: 103 cm
Blade Length: 89 cm
Handle Length: 14 cm
Blade Width: 3 cm
Description of the Item:
I am proud to present this superb and rare saber known as the “troop” type (due to its rare markings) from the Belgian cavalry regiment of Montmorency. The handle is covered with black leather, secured with a rivet on each side, very sturdy, with no play. Three-branch guard. The blade is curved, massive, marked “P + crown,” + date hidden by the leather strap + “J.H.” and “A 478” on the scabbard, as well as on the fastening chain: “DEPOSITED extra white metal.” A central groove, very beautiful and patinated blade, in its original state. Steel scabbard, very solid with one ring, beautiful patina. Truly a magnificent piece, recovered near Brussels, complete with its scabbard, its porte-bouclier and its fastening chain. I am parting with it because it is not my area of collection; the piece is absolutely stunning, and I am sure it will find a prime place in the showcase of another enthusiast of Belgian military history! A unique saber that is simply irreplaceable in any condition. A similar example can be seen at the Royal Army Museum in Brussels, very rare!!!
It is certain that in acquiring this splendid and rare saber from the Belgian troops, you will possess a very rare witness to the history of Belgium. You will also have a beautiful blade forged by the best Belgian craftsmen of the time, but also a souvenir from the last Saxe-Cobourg and Gotha dynasty. To summarize, a magnificent and rare piece that must be seized!!!
