The Belgian National Gendarmerie (in Dutch: Rijkswacht) was a Belgian armed force tasked with police and law enforcement duties among the civilian population, the execution of judicial duties at the request of the Prosecutor's Office, and military policing. As such, it long depended on the ministers of the Interior, Justice, and Defense depending on the task to be accomplished.

I present to you a magnificent, rare, and massive Belgian gendarmerie officer's sabre from the period of Albert I, model 1889. Gilded bronze mount. Four-branch guard decorated with oak leaves. Filigreed horn handle. Blade etched with acid: "FOR THE KING AND THE HOMELAND" marked: "FONSON BRUXELLES" at the heel. Shiny blade engraved with the monogram of "KING ALBERT I," in good condition. Smooth steel sheath with one ring, complete. Good condition, mount and handle in very nice condition. A rather rare piece, practically unobtainable! Very pleasant to hold and to admire in a showcase! A superb and rare piece, completely original!
