The Portuguese colonial empire (in Portuguese: Império Colonial Português) refers to the overseas territories occupied and administered by Portugal from the beginning of the 15th century until the 20th century. For a long time, it was officially preferred to use the term "Portuguese overseas" (Ultramar português) before temporarily adopting the term "Portuguese colonial empire" between 1930 and 1951.

Very beautiful Portuguese infantry officer saber mod. 1897. Blade in good condition with a central groove. Guard with three branches decorated with floral reliefs and ray skin / shagreen. Very nice scabbard with one ring. The saber fits perfectly in its scabbard. Superb and very rare piece in its original condition for any knowledgeable collector passionate about WW1. Very pleasant to hold and even more enjoyable to observe in a display!
