Description

Historical context:

The Brigadier General: Under the Second Empire (1852-1870), a Brigadier General was a general officer commanding a brigade (several regiments), typically wearing two stars (or a single star with distinctive insignia depending on the era), with specific uniforms such as an embroidered kepi and gold and silver epaulettes, representing the first rank of general officer, often serving as division chief of staff or regiment commander, with notable figures like Georges Beuret or Barthélémy Lebrun.

Dimensions:

Total length: 98.6 cm

Length without the scabbard: 96 cm

Blade length: 79 cm

Handle length: 17.7 cm

Blade width: 1.7 cm

Description:

Superb sword of a French brigadier general from the Second Empire. Guard decorated with floral ornaments, laurel leaves, and flags with the eagle of the Second Empire on the quillon and the two stars of the brigadier general, guard with a functional moving branch, with a lot of original gilding (95%). Stunning shiny blade in its original condition with traces of the first manufacturing cut on the heel of the blade (which is more than exceptional...). Filigreed horn grip, gilding well present. Leather scabbard with gilded bronze fittings, also decorated, simply superb! The sword knot is also well present, no play at the handle! Very pleasant to hold in hand and to observe in a showcase! Splendid piece, completely original! A sword that probably has seen very little use and has been very well maintained given the presence of the scabbard, the filigree, and especially the abundant gilding (90-95%)!
