Description

Model History:

Here is a superb and rare Russian sword model 1927, of the WW2 trophy type. This sword equipped the dragoons (the cavalry) of the Empire until its end in 1917, as well as during the bloody Russian Civil War (1917-1923). The 1881 dragoon model would be adopted by the Soviets with very different markings until the early 1950s.

DIMENSIONS:

Total length: 96.5 cm

Length without the scabbard: 95 cm

Blade length: 85.49 cm

Handle length: 14 cm

Blade width: 3.3 cm

Description:

This very beautiful and rare sword is called by collectors "Dragunka" in reference to the term "the dragoons." It is a type of trophy sword known as "shashka," a designation given by the Russians to swords offered as diplomatic gifts or to deserving Soviet officers for acts of bravery during World War II. The handle is made of Bakelite and brass, with no play. Marked "3L3 32L" (IMPERIAL THEN SOVIET MANUFACTURE OF ZLATOOUST FROM 1932) with the letter "H" as well as regimental markings, the blade is chrome-plated and in superb condition! The scabbard is in good condition with some minor cracks. The blade is still shiny and chrome-plated, in its original condition with traces due to time, still featuring its original brown leather tie. A magnificent and very rare Russian shashka that can easily decorate your showcase dedicated to WW2 or 1930s swords. A photo of a reward-type dagger is compared in photo N°5. Very rare and 100% guaranteed original! A very beautiful piece, pleasant to hold and even more enjoyable to admire in a showcase. A superb sword that has still retained its period shine!

THE LOT: SWORD + SCABBARD + BAYONETTE

I acquired this magnificent sword for my collection, but I am parting with it for financial reasons and hope it finds a special place in the display case of another enthusiast. Additional information regarding this piece can be found in the works of A.N. Kulinski as well as in the Gazette des Armes N° 107, from July 1982.

By purchasing this magnificent Russian sword, you will possess a beautiful witness to the tragic Russian history of the early 20th century. But also a formidable weapon finely forged by the best Russian gunsmiths of the time, and a memento of the last Russian dynasty, the Romanovs.

A magnificent and rare piece absolutely to capture for any serious collector!
