Historical context :



Here is a superb Cossack kindjal, made by Caucasian gunsmiths. The kindjal is a traditional Russian weapon, it can be called a large knife or dagger. These superb pieces were most of the time made by local Caucasian artisans (Omarov, Guzunov...) or official and necessarily more regulatory factories, such as the Zlatoust or Tula factory. Kindjals were widely used in the Russian Empire until the end of it in 1917. We also know of a few examples manufactured during the Soviet era, but they were only decorative or ceremonial weapons, used during military parades.

Description :



This magnificent dagger is made up of a wooden handle with silver-type engravings. The blade in good condition with marks due to time, to be cleaned, very solid, it has two central gutters. It also has markings, ''two grenades'', typical of Caucasian pieces of the time with its original scabbard, leather, wood and metal. Item sold as in the photos and in the description. Kindjal recovered in France from a private individual, I am selling it due to lack of window space. The kindjal probably dates from the Caucasian wars around the middle of the 19th century. You will find more information on the subject in the books of A.N. Kulinski or in the weapons gazette n°184, from December 1988.
