The kindjal is a traditional Russian weapon, which can be referred to as a large knife or dagger. These superb pieces were mostly made by local Caucasian artisans (Omarov, Guzunov...) or by official, more regulated manufacturers, such as the factories in Zlatooust or Tula. Kindjals were widely used in the Russian Empire until its end in 1917. There are also a few examples made during the Soviet era, but these were only decorative or ceremonial weapons used during military parades.
DIMENSIONS:
Total length: 63.6 cm
Length without the sheath: 53.4 cm
Blade length: 39 cm
Handle length: 14.5 cm
Blade width: 4.5 cm
Description:
This magnificent dagger features a handle made of black and white horn with silver-type buttons. The blade is in good condition with traces due to time, needs cleaning, is very sturdy, and has two central grooves. It also bears markings: "Two Moons", typical of Caucasian pieces from the period with its original sheath made of leather, wood, and metal, and its "VERY RARE" knife (usually lost or missing). The piece is sold as seen in the photos and in the description. I am parting with it due to lack of space in my display. The kindjal likely dates from the Caucasian wars around the mid-19th century. You will find more information on the subject in the books by A.N. Kulinski or in the weapons gazette No. 184, from December 1988.
By purchasing this rare Cossack kindjal, you will possess a magnificent witness to the tragic Russian history of the early 20th century. Additionally, a formidable weapon very finely decorated by the best Russian arms makers of the time!
A magnificent and rare piece that will wonderfully decorate your display as a relic from the finest Russian and Caucasian artisans of the Tsarist era!
VERY RARE AND 100% ORIGINAL!
