Dragons... This cavalry unit with an originally obscure name has been present in the ranks of the French army since the 16th century. Moving on horseback and fighting on foot, this dual-skilled unit gained its nobility in the 17th century.

Superb, massive, and rare palash sabre of the French cavalry dragon. Handle in bronze or brass with four branches, shiny, no play. Handle wrapped in leather and filigree. Stunning blade with two central grooves in its original condition with traces of time, marked on the back "MANUFACTURE D'ARMES DE CHATELL. AUGUST 1874, DRAGON MLE 1854." Along with various markings on the heel "M" in a circle and on a branch of the guard "1"... Sabre and scabbard with the same number: "59876" (RARE). Scabbard with one ring, in beautiful condition in its original state! A very beautiful and massive piece, very pleasant to hold in hand and even more to observe in a display case!
