Plaster sculpture 'Mandolin Player' after 'Mignon' by Joseph Le Guluche height 57.5 cm.
This tall sculpture is striking and draws the eye.
It is signed, and the signature needs to be identified, see photo 7. Likewise, the stamp needs to be identified, see photo 8.
It appears to be a work after Joseph Le Guluche (1849-1915), or possibly reinterpreting this character. The character of Mignon comes from a comic opera, and it originally stems from a novel by Goethe. However, in this novel, her tragic ending could clash with the conventions of comic operas, which preferred happy endings. Therefore, in the pragmatic French version, Mignon (pronounced Mignonne like Goethe) is set to marry and is left with the opportunity for a large posterity. This also left room for hundreds of additional performances!
This antique sculpture is in very good condition: there is some wear, no missing or broken parts, and a plaster touch-up on her left arm that is difficult to see. It still maintains a pleasant state. See the 10 photos. I really like the clothing retouch (see photo 9) because Mignon was a poor young girl.
The height is 57.5 cm, and the 75 cl wine bottle is not included in the lot but serves for comparison.
The weight is 3.8 kg, and the parcel weight will exceed 5 kg to account for the many protections.
