PIERRE GATIER THE WORLD OF THE WEDDING THE ROYAL RUE PIGALLE IN PARIS N 14 EAU FORTE ET AQUATINTE H3251 This work has some stains, especially in the margin, but the whole has remained in a fairly good state of conservation. The frame is original but we note that the protective glass is missing.Everything is natural as collectors appreciate them.These works reach high prices in the auction room.Pierre Louis Antoine Gatier, born in Toulon on the 12th January 1878, and died in Joigny (Yonne) on October 15, 1944, was a French painter and engraver.Pierre Gatier received artistic training at the École des beaux-arts de Toulon, then at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts from Paris where he was a pupil of Joseph Blanc, then of Fernand Cormon. He celebrated in his works the Parisian life of the Belle Époque and exhibited at the Salon of French artists from 1903 to 1907. He was not interested in monuments of the city, but to the social life of places in vogue (Champ s-Élysées, rue de la Paix, Longchamp racecourse, etc.). On March 30, 1907, he was appointed official painter of the Navy: he then produced views of Toulon and its environment, and reported on various news such as the Sinking of the Kniaz Suvorov at the Russo-Japanese battle of Tsushima.After World War I, he settled in Parmain (Val-d'Oise), but the crisis of 1929 forced him to temporarily give up painting and return in Toulon where he worked in 1931 on the camouflage of the coastal structures of the Navy, in particular on the island of Porquerolles. He participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1937 in Paris where he decorated the Palais de l'Air.
