Antique wooden chest, likely a shepherd's chest, dated around 1900. Its origin remains uncertain: it could be Alpine or from Eastern Europe (Transylvania). It is a piece of regional handcrafted work, full of charm.

The front is engraved with floral patterns and arabesques. The domed lid is also engraved and closes with a beautiful system of wooden pegs.

The chest is entirely constructed with pegs, by assembling boards inserted together as well as in spacing. Nothing is glued. It has retained its patina and its old varnish.

It is in generally good condition for its age, with signs of long use. Observations include:
- numerous woodworm holes, and rather damaged areas on the feet; the whole is stabilized and has received preventive treatment against pests;
- old repairs with wood filler;
- the lid does not stay open by itself;
- inside remains an old trace of red wax.

Dimensions: 69 cm (76 cm with lid) x 46 cm x 37 cm (45 cm with lid).
