Large thick pottery dish decorated with a scene of Chinese warriors. Chinese costumes and attributes: robe with "shou" (longevity) medallions on the character to the right, high bun of the central warrior, typical striped boots of Chinese opera generals, banner, halberd, tripodal incense burner (ding) with turquoise bi. Rim: large pattern of fans/waves in black & ivory reminiscent of Art Deco. Reverse: broad turquoise/ochre frieze in radiating petals around the annular foot. Thick and heavy paste. Cream background with strong intentional crazing and polychrome cloisonné enamels (black paste outlines in slight relief). Technique that could be attributed to Longwy from the 1920s-1930s.
