Large thick earthenware dish decorated with a scene of Chinese warriors. Chinese costumes and attributes: robe with "shou" (longevity) medallions on the character on the right, high bun of the central warrior, typical striped boots of Chinese opera generals, banner, halberd, tripodal incense burner (ding) with turquoise bi. Rim: large pattern of black & ivory fans/waves reminiscent of Art Deco. Reverse: wide turquoise/ochre frieze with radiating petals around the annular foot. Thick and heavy paste. Cream background with deliberate strong crazing and cloisonné polychrome enamels (contours in slightly raised black paste). Technique that could be attributed to Longwy from the 1920s-1930s.
