Bronze medallion Decor of Cupids in the round Mrs. Léon Bertaux Hélène Hébert Blackened wood frame Napoleon III 19th H5041This 19th century medallion is signed Mrs. Léon Bertaux, it represents Cupids in the round with female profiles. Daughter of the sculptor Pierre Hébert, Madame Léon Bertaux follows the teaching of her father and Augustin Dumont. Several of his works are listed abroad, notably in Chile, Portugal and France in churches, public collections, squares and parks. We can cite the reliefs of the Louvre, Navigation and Legislation, the bas-reliefs Moses and Charlemagne. She signed her works, from 1854, under the name of “Madame Léon Bertaux”, named after her second husband, Léon Bertaux. A feminist activist, she founded the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors in 1881 to promote the works of female artists. She will thus obtain the admission of women artists to the School of Fine Arts and to the Rome competition. There is a pretty bronze patina nuanced chocolate brown patina. The frame is blackened wood, everything is beautifully made. The carving is fine, this medallion is very decorative.
