Description
Old circular pocket ashtray in ceramic, made by the potter Eugène Alaphilippe (known as "Charliton") (1879-1959) in Verneuil-sin-Igneraie (Indre), in the heart of the Vallée Noire.
Dating from the 1920s-1935 (Art Deco period), it features a beautiful glaze in deep shades of blue on the top, enhanced by slight protrusions of raw clay. The base is left raw in red terracotta.
It bears the handwritten and incised signature underneath: "Alaphilippe Verneuil Indre".
The object measures 14 cm in diameter, a little over 2 cm in height, weighs 506g and has 3 notches for cigarettes. It is in perfect condition, without any chips or cracks and has never been used as an ashtray.
