The Czechoslovak Republic was established in 1918 from the dismantled Austro-Hungarian Empire. The scabbards used with the former Austrian bayonets M 1888 and M 1895 and those made for the new bayonets (VZ 23, 24) were identical to the Austro-Hungarian model. As most are unmarked, it is impossible to accurately identify them; a few bear national marks (lion) or marks including the names of Czechoslovak cities. The most common national marks are the date, usually between (1935 and 1939), associated with a lion.
