Chessboard, travel chess set, miniature, handcrafted Russian porcelain, stamped from Gzhel, Turigino near Moscow, vintage from the 80s-90s, handcrafted, hand-painted in the traditional style, royal blue, floral and geometric patterns typical of Gzhel. Signed under the body and under the board by the artist Yuri Nikolaevich Garanin, Гаранин, Honored Artist of Russia since '97, some of his pieces are displayed in museums in Russia. The base is a box consisting of a body that has 2 compartments for the pieces, false drawers/handles on either side, and 4 small feet, the chessboard, or board, is a lid. 16 white pieces, 16 black pieces, complete, Kings 3cm in height, pawns 2cm. Small felt squares at the base of the pieces. Board 19x19cm, 21cm in length with handles, by 20cm in width for the body, 5.5cm maximum height. The artist produced a number of chess sets; however, travel chess sets are rare in his production. A piece of great delicacy, much finesse in the details. Brand new condition. Slightly wobbly on its feet. Approximately 1.280kg for the whole set.
