Description

Rare, beautiful little antique enameled porcelain planter from the 19th century, circa 1860-1890. Made in Germany, Saxony/Thuringia, numbered under the base in fine blue brush on the biscuit, another mark visible near one foot, indecipherable, typical of the Saxon and Thuringian workshops of the second half of the 19th century (Sitzendorf, Volkstedt, Dresden…) inspired by Meissen. Rectangular shape representing a basket, richly decorated with putti in "high relief" holding multicolored flower garlands in applied paste, handmade craftsmanship, fully painted. Nice pastel colors, pale pink, blue, light yellow... The flower garlands are in more vivid, multicolored tones. Approximately 23cm in maximum length and 14-15cm in maximum depth with the exterior decoration, 11cm in height. Interior dimensions are 15.5cm in length and 8.5cm in depth, at its narrowest (opening, flared at the bottom). Overall condition is acceptable, showing inevitable signs of age, particularly accidents and relatively numerous losses to the flowers, probably a missing handle whose base has been discreetly smoothed, overall quite harmonious, with losses on the flowers mostly visible up close. There are also remnants of gilding on the edges, not bothersome. No cracks, no chips on the body. A decorative piece in the charming and gentle German Rococo Revival style of the 19th century. Weighs approximately 1.6kg.
