Hippolyte Bellangé (1800-1866) is a French painter and lithographer of the 19th century, trained in the workshop of Antoine-Jean Gros. A versatile artist, he excels in history painting as well as in genre scenes, portraits, or lively compositions. His sense of drawing, the vivacity of his compositions, and the quality of his lithographs earned him early recognition: he exhibited at the Salon as early as 1824 and received several official awards throughout his career. A Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1834, Bellangé left behind a varied body of work that reflects the romantic aesthetic and the 19th-century taste for visual narratives and the expression of movement. Good overall condition, see photo.
