Scalloped edge with rockwork ornaments and Louis XV-inspired side scrolls.
Typical of the Second Empire (between 1860 and 1880).
The central composition, known as a floral drop, is subtle and detailed, featuring gradients and white highlights in the petals.
The original varnish is crackled throughout the surface; it has an amber hue and small bubbles characteristic of the shellacs used during that time.
On the reverse, 4 wooden slats forming a rectangle suggest that this tray is part of a lost set: tilt-top table, work table...?
The overall condition is satisfactory for its 150 years of age, but it does suffer from multiple chips of the primer at the back, on the edge, and on the decorated surface.
