Sold as presented. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) is a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing and then with soft-ground engraving, specifically etching, in 1882. Concurrently, he started a career as a director and set designer in 1886, creating shadow theater at the cabaret Le Chat Noir, enhancing performances with the creation of innovative colored scenery. He then devoted himself exclusively to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted around a thousand watercolors).
