Glazed stoneware teapot – Hervé Rousseau, Atelier de Boisbelle, La Borne
Curved-shaped stoneware teapot, handmade by the ceramist Hervé Rousseau in his workshop in Boisbelle (Henrichemont, Cher), near the famous pottery center of La Borne.
A swift and efficient throwing technique and good wild, unwashed clay are the fundamental bases of his work, all completely fired in his large kiln.
Round and generous belly, ribbed neck, dome lid with knob grip, loop handle, and tapered spout.
The beige-cream glaze, applied in irregular drips, reveals the raw stoneware in places as well as blue-gray and mauve reflections—characteristic traces of ash deposits and flame variations specific to wood-fired traditional kiln.
Each unique piece carries the marks of flame passages and ash projections in the kiln, making each example irreplaceable. Artist: Hervé Rousseau, born in 1955, trained under Augusto Tozzola and then Jacky Coville in Biot.
He established himself in Boisbelle in 1981 with Josette Miquel, where he built his large Japanese reclining kiln with three chambers (noborigama of 9 m³) in 1985-86.
His works are included in public collections of museums in France (Decorative Arts, Sèvres, Cluny...) and in foreign museums (Germany, England, China).
He is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (AIC).
