ENGRAVING BY NICOLAS LANCRET L'INNOCENCE MUSEE DU LOUVRE E BOULAY Nicolas Lancret Nicolas Lancret, born January 22, 1690 in Paris where he died September 14, 1743, is a French painter. He brilliantly portrayed the spirit of light comedy characteristic of the tastes and mores of French Regency society. Son of Robert Lancret (1645-1695), coachman then controller of the Porte Saint-Antoine, Nicolas was destined from a young age for the profession of intaglio engraver. To this end, he received his first lessons in drawing from his older brother, François-Joseph Lancret (1686-1752), who was a master engraver, for which he showed rare aptitude. He then got his parents to abandon his job as an engraver for painting. For the condition, note small oxidation stains and halos, pitting, slight creasing from handling, trace of folding in places, small missing, micro-tear....
