Description

Hippolyte Bellangé (1800-1866) Hippolyte Bellangé was a French painter and lithographer of the 19th century, trained in the workshop of Antoine-Jean Gros. A versatile artist, he excelled in history painting as well as genre scenes, portraits, and lively compositions. His sense of drawing, the liveliness of his compositions, and the quality of his lithographs earned him early recognition: he exhibited at the Salon as early as 1824 and received several official awards during his career. A Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1834, Bellangé left a varied body of work that reflects the Romantic aesthetic and the 19th century's taste for visual narratives and the expression of movement. Good overall condition, see photo.
