He went to Paris to prepare for the drawing professorship and attended the École du Louvre. Chambéry, Louis Germain became friends with several mountain painters, Francis Cariffa, Joseph-Victor Communal, and Lucien Poignant with whom he painted in the surrounding massifs. He is also renowned for his watercolors, views of ports and seascapes of the Mediterranean coast.
