Silver Art Nouveau Collar 1890/1910 Female Profile. Solid silver pendant necklace dating from the Art Nouveau period (late 19th - early 20th century), a work signed by the sculptor Jules Jouant. See the last photo. The pendant is a circular or slightly contoured medallion, measuring approximately 2.3 cm (height) by 1.6 cm (width), featuring a bas-relief typical of the Art Nouveau style. It depicts an elegant female profile, perhaps a nymph or an allegorical figure, emerging from a motif of flowers and foliage. The whole piece shows a beautiful antique patina and has been tested with acid to confirm the quality of the metal. The chain, of the forcet or gourmette type, is also made of silver and has a length of about 27 cm (suggesting a total length worn of about 54 cm, if the measurement is that of the strand). It is stamped on the ring, guaranteeing its silver content. The whole weighs approximately 7.5 grams and constitutes a refined and highly sought-after artist's jewel from this period. The Artist Jules Jouant (1863-1938) Jules Jouant (born in 1863 in Paris and died in 1938) is a French sculptor associated with the Art Nouveau movement. * Training and Career: He was a student at the École des beaux-arts in Paris and is known to have been one of the practitioners (assistants) of Auguste Rodin. He frequently exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français. * Style: His work is very characteristic of Art Nouveau, exploring figurative themes, often featuring female figures (nymphs, women emerging from waters) and floral motifs. * Works: He is famous for his busts of musicians (such as Richard Wagner, Ludwig van Beethoven), as well as for his bronzes, tin (published by renowned founders such as Barbedienne or Eugène Blot), and his decorative objects.
