Old Japanese "Fumibako" box for storing rectangular letters in mahogany lacquered wood & decorated in gold lacquered hiramaki-e with birds placed on flowering branches.
Gold speckled interior.

Meiji period. Early 20th century. Good condition, small wear, chips & cracks in the lacquer but without detachment.
