Elegant plate made of fine earthenware from the Creil & Montereau factory, illustrating one of the famous songs of Béranger: “The Flower Girl and the Undertaker.” The rim is adorned with a palmette and a large garland of vine, typical of the productions from the late 1820s. This series, born in the wake of the great popular enthusiasm surrounding Béranger's trial in 1828, draws on the vignettes and drawings by Monnier that were circulated at the same time. The earliest prints of these plates cannot be earlier than this symbolic year.
