Sandstone sculpture / Glazed sandstone finial signed at the base "J-M Doix - Coulanges". Height 84 cm Width Max 42 cm A small chip is noted at the base. Delivery in Paris and nearby suburbs 45 euros. I quote J-M Doix himself: "It was a drawing teacher from high school who introduced me to ceramics very early on as well as the Contemporary Art Center at the Château de Ratilly (89) run by the Pierlot family.
It was there that I discovered, among others, the works of Hamada and Leach, and I chose to become a potter. Roger Jacques, Robert Deblander, then Anne Kjaerjaard and Jean Linard are the first professionals who helped and advised me when I settled down in 1968 and built a 3-chamber wood kiln (first firing in 1969). Right from the beginning, I oriented myself towards a production that was familiar to me, the Poyaudine tradition and popular art.
I make raw or glazed pieces but my attachment to other cultures has never been lacking; my Catalan origins may explain my taste for baroque exuberance and glazed stoneware, a technique I developed alongside my high-temperature work. My utilitarian pottery, my architectural or sculptural creations are shaped at the heart of these multiple encounters for over forty years..." L: 42 W: 42 H: 84
