Nils Thorsson joined Royal Copenhagen as an apprentice in 1912 and graduated from the Danish Royal Academy in 1917. From 1949, he was the artistic director at Royal Copenhagen and also the artistic director of Alumina from 1928 to 1969. He is the originator of the four largest collections of Danish ceramics: SOLBERG from 1930, MARSELIS from 1950, TENERA from 1960, and BACA from 1964. He also produced many less-known and rarer art pieces in enamels. His pieces from the 1950s to 1970 are very popular works from Royal Copenhagen, now considered excellent examples of Scandinavian modernism. The motifs and designs of Nils Thorsson range from abstraction to naturalism, including geometric patterns.
Many appreciate Nils Thorsson's BACA range for the precision and complexity of its motifs. Baca model 719 / 2883 ashtray. L: 17 W: 17 H: 3.
