Robert Wogensky decided to become a painter after seeing Picasso's "Guernica" at the 1937 Exposition. The Formica factory: In France, the Formica factory was established in Quillan in the Aude region at the very beginning of the 1950s, replacing a hat factory that was in decline, with the staff being retained and trained for the new activity. The Formica factory in Quillan would experience such growth that the brand became the economic and social engine for the entire region. Formica is a material invented in the United States at the beginning of the 20th century, originally used as electrical insulation instead of "mica". The name is derived from "for" (instead of) "mica." In France, it arrived with the Americans, along with nylon and chewing gum. "Formica laminated plastic" is an assembly of kraft paper sheets that are impregnated with synthetic resin, a phenomenon of polymerization making the rest. From there, Formica sheets are obtained and laminated onto the furniture or object being created. With the oil shock of the early 1970s, the price of resins skyrocketed along with the price of Formica, leading to a decline felt in the mid-1970s, and a social plan was implemented every two years. The death of the factory was announced on December 5, 2003. This marked the beginning of difficult discussions for the social plan for the inter-union and the retraining of the 149 employees. On June 30, 2004, the last machines from the Quillan factory were loaded onto moving trucks. Style: 1970 Genre: Abstract Artist: Robert Wogensky
