Superb original drawing by the artist Henri Armengol (1884-1944), famous French illustrator and press cartoonist. This is a "study head" or character portrait representing an elderly man with a long beard (Art Nouveau). The work showcases great technical finesse.
Gray/sepia wash with significant highlights of white gouache, adding a lot of relief and light to the face. Period tinted paper. The artwork is old and "in its juice." Sold without its glass, due to a break that did not damage the work.
