Authentic and very poetic pair of bookends. Black Forest style, completely hand-carved. Made from dense solid wood during the 1950s. Each piece of this coordinated set features a small Scottish Terrier dog sitting at the threshold of its carved wooden niche with a peaked fluted roof.
The craftsman has created a magnificent work of chiseling and engraving to reproduce the rough texture of the animal's fur, enhanced by small contrasting round eyes and a delicate hand-painted red tongue.
Rarity. Each dog retains its small original patinated brass side chain. A superb example of mid-century European naive animal art, ideal for structuring a charming library or dressing a retro office. Features: • Theme: Scottish Terrier Dog / Black Forest. • Materials: Chiseled and gouged solid wood and brass. • Period: Circa 1950-1960. • Dimensions (each): Height 20 cm | Length 12 cm | Width 12 cm. • Condition: Splendid original condition. The wood is sound and heavy, with a minor patina of time on the ear of the dog that attests to its total historical authenticity. L: 12 W: 12 H: 20
