Watercolor signed G. Delbays, view of the bell tower of Saint Pancrace church in Yvoire, Haute Savoie, 29 x 39, a characteristic bell tower.
The current bulb-shaped bell tower was built in 1857 to replace the former campanile. This wall-bell tower, characteristic of Romanesque-style chapels, was one of the 800 bell towers in the region destroyed by Albitte during the French Revolution to melt down the bells for Napoleon's army cannons.
The Yvoire bell tower was covered with stainless steel in 1989. This gives it a shiny appearance, like a lighthouse on Lake Geneva on sunny days. Before 1989, the bell tower looked truly rusty.
The top of the Yvoire church bell tower is covered with gold leaves that come from one of the last gold beaters in France. It was located in Excenevex, just a few kilometers from Yvoire.
Under glass, watercolor in very good condition, imperfections on the frame. Careful shipping guaranteed.
