Jacques DESTOOP first experienced a career as an actor at the Comédie-Française. It is there that he "sketches" his first characters on cigar box lids: actors behind the scenes, but also himself in the role of Cyrano de Bergerac or the "critics" comfortably seated in their armchairs... He enjoys satire and often caricatures with a biting humor. In his work, figurative paintings in an expressionist style alternate with abstract or nearly abstract paintings, in which the material finds its place.
