Original drawing signed by PIEM (possibly created live on a television broadcast?) Artist: Piem is a humorous cartoonist. Since 1947, he has collaborated with TEMOIGNAGE CHRETIEN and FIGARO (until 1981). Le Point, La Croix... At the same time, he defends the journalistic profession by joining the SNJ union. He is also the creator of the character Turlupin, which appeared in strips in some daily newspapers like L'EST REPUBLICAIN, especially in the 1970s. He became known to the general public by participating in the television shows Le petit rapporteur (1975-1976) where he created a press review in drawings, “La petite semaine de Piem.” The pen name Piem is derived from the first letters of his first name (Pierre) and the first letter of part of his last name (Montvallon). Piem liked to playfully reinterpret his artist name as: “Prodigious, Irresistible, Extraordinary, Modest.” Piem passed away on November 12, 2020.
